Choosing the Best Carbide / Wear Bar
Bergstrom Skegs carbides and wear bars are the best on the market. Whether you want carbides that last longer, improve control, eliminate darting, or just make your riding experience more enjoyable, we have the solutions.
Before making your choice, consider the following factors.
Factors affecting the wear bar you choose
- Riding style… casual, aggressive or bat-out-of-hell.
- Where you ride… open fields or clear trails, or trails with uneven terrain or limited visibility, such as wooded areas.
- Snowmobile size and weight.
- Rider’s weight, which affects the balance of your skis.
- Track length and the number of studs in your track.

Choosing the best carbide length is mostly dependent upon the size/weight of your machine and the weight of the rider, as well as your riding style.
Shorter carbides are better for smaller machines with smaller riders, improving control without impacting ease of handling. Generally, longer carbides are better for large, fast machines, improving control and better cornering at higher speeds. The more aggressive your style and cornering is, the more carbide you need.
Bergstrom Skegs single or triple carbides feature diamond shaped carbides for better penetration and control on icy surfaces. Importantly, the carbide is embedded into the host bar as far it extends, ensuring the carbide will never fall out.
